Dr Aoife McGarvey

Physio Living is excited to announce the introduction of the HIVAMAT 200TM Deep Oscillation Therapy into our clinic. This innovative device was developed in Germany more than 20 years ago and has only just been added to the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods in April 2024! HIVAMAT (High-Intensity Vibration and Oscillation Machine) utilises a patented deep oscillation therapy via electrostatic forces.

How does it work?

Watch these videoclips to see how the HIVAMAT works:

What does it do?

  • Deep oscillation is created by intermittent low intensity electrostatic fields (5-250 Hz)

  • This creates a resonance vibration beneath the skin (avoiding this layer) up to 8 cm depth

  • It has many beneficial tissue effects, depending on the settings and frequencies used

What area its treatment effects?

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Swelling/oedema reduction

  • Haematoma (bleeding into the tissues) reduction

  • Wound healing

  • Reduces adhesions and fibrosis

  • Pain relief

  • Muscle relaxation

How does it work?

Reduction of Swelling, oedema, haematoma, seroma

  • Distributes and moves the fluid mechanically through lymphatic capillaries (ICG study)

  • Tissue studies show vasoconstriction of dermal capillaries after 2 sessions of tissue treated with HIVAMAT compared to control (Boisnic & Branchet 2013).

  • 3D-volume studies indicated reduced volume of swelling/oedema in treated area compared to non-treated area

  • Ultrasound studies show reduction of oedema/swelling before and after treatment in 20 patients with significant reduction in epidermal thickness

  • Tractions opens the small lymphatic capillaries to take lymphatic fluid in

Reduction of fibrosis

  • Adhesions are reduced

  • Vibration causes mechanical softening of hardened fibrotic tissue

Pain relief

  • Directly via reduction of TRPV1-expression (tissue studies)

  • Indirectly via muscle relaxation

Why is it possibly better than other treatments that work similarly?

  • Non-invasive, extremely gentle, avoids skin trauma

  • Intensifies and facilitates manual lymphatic drainage massage

  • Has multiple applications

  • Can be used on Day 1 after surgery, leading to faster reduction of bruising and swelling

  • Recommended by the Austrian Vodder Academy of Manual Lymphatic Drainage

  • Evidence-based as supported by publications: https://www.hivamatus.com/hivamat-clinic-research

Physio Living is the FIRST CLINIC to have the HIVAMAT device in Newcastle. Our clinic can provide this unique innovative therapy at no additional cost and is included in your normal treatment fee.
