Facial Nerve Rehabilitation
Specialist physiotherapy to restore facial movement, function and tailored to your concerns.
Facial nerve weakness or paralysis can occur following head and neck cancer surgery, acoustic neuroma surgery, Bell's palsy and other neurological conditions such a Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Early assessment and targeted rehabilitation can help optimise recovery, improve facial function and reduce long-term complications.
At Physio Living, you will be treated by a physiotherapist who is part of the Newcastle Facial Nerve Clinic and has undertaken additional training in facial nerve rehabilitation, including at Sydney’s Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. We work collaboratively with your treating specialists to provide evidence-based rehabilitation tailored to your individual needs.
Treatment may include:
❋ Comprehensive facial nerve assessment ❋ Facial muscle retraining ❋ Facial taping ❋ Management of synkinesis ❋ Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (EMS), where clinically appropriate and supervised by your physiotherapist ❋ Soft tissue and scar management ❋ Home exercise programs ❋ Education and long-term self-management strategies ❋ Rehabilitation following head and neck cancer surgery and other causes of facial nerve dysfunction
